Mindful Living

Peacefully connect with your inner genius.

Open, non-judgemental curiosity

Mindfulness meditation is the cultivation of open-hearted awareness of one’s present moment experience. It is non-sectarian in nature and the principles of mindfulness are fundamental to many traditional meditation practices around the world.

Living mindfully in the present helps strengthen memory, learning attention, and self-awareness. Over the long-term, continued mindfulness practice can improve attention, memory, and comprehension and reduce anxiety, depression, and emotional reactivity.

Mindfulness practice can help you discover how to:

  • Live life more joyfully and resourcefully.

  • Increase your ability to handle even extremely stressful situations with greater balance, resilience, and ease.

  • Understand your perceptions and how they often cause suffering.

  • Decrease physical and psychological suffering.

  • Let go of struggling with things that won’t change.

  • Deepen a loving connection with yourself and others.

  • Discover greater energy and enthusiasm for life.

  • Enhance your ability to cope with the pain that may not go away.

The practice of mindfulness is beneficial for people experiencing anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and physical symptoms related to stress or disease. What is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction?

In 1979 Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, gathered and adapted ancient Buddhist teachings to develop a stress-reduction program designed to help people relieve suffering. Since its inception, thousands of people have completed the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program and learned how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain, and illness. This program has been successfully implemented in hundreds of hospitals, clinics, health centers, and other settings around the world helping people with conditions as diverse as chronic pain, heart disease, anxiety, psoriasis, sleep problems, and depression.

Loving-Kindness

Combining loving-kindness with mindfulness brings empathy, understanding, and compassion to what we experience. We learn to experience self-love, which then connects us to genuine and selfless love for the world, freeing ourselves from expectations and fear. Explore more about loving-kindness.

Mindfulness and loving-kindness are contagious! Our mindfulness helps others feel safe. One person really can change the world.

Children need mindfulness and loving-kindness, too

If you’re a parent or educator, you understand that children lead from the examples we set. This article, Nourishing the Hearts and Minds of Children goes into deeper detail about how mindfulness training can help children.

Mindful Living founder, Micki Fine, is passionate about the potential of mindfulness and loving-kindness training for children. She created Secret Superpowers: Strong Foundations for SEL Competencies that provide single-family homes, homeschool groups, and entire schools with the framework needed to help the children in your life develop stronger executive skills, listen to their inner wisdom, and appropriately respond and react.

Loving-kindness meditation is for all

Practical methods for loving all beings, including ourselves

You might already understand the benefits of mindfulness, the awareness that arises when we intentionally bring awareness into the present moment with openness, non-judgment, and curiosity. But loving-kindness meditation takes it a step further, by intentionally cultivating compassion and joy for all in and through our hearts and into our lives, actions, and speech. When combined with a mindfulness practice, the effects are multiplied.

The benefits of mindful loving-kindness practice are many-fold:

  • We reduce our own stress and those of others.

  • We are more adaptable and that freedom helps others around us explore their limits.

  • We are loving and kind to ourselves,

  • We become more peaceful and grateful, and that gratitude flows into the world improving our lives as well as those around us.

Explore our library and find videos and recorded meditations that will guide you through mindful and loving kindness meditations.

Our practice affects the young people around us.

As parents or members of families with children, we know that our kids learn from how we treat them and others. Are you setting the example you want them to follow?

The Secret Superpowers: Strong Foundations for SEL Competencies

This 6-lesson curriculum developed by Mindful Living founder, Micki Fine, takes learners through step-by-step guidance in teaching children to build mindfulness and loving awareness skills. The potential is enormous: studies show developing social-emotional skills in kindergarten leads to better outcomes for young adults across education, employment, criminal activity, substance use, and mental health. Most children become happy and successful when they learn to apply mindfulness techniques and cultivate the beautiful qualities already within them.

The curriculum is based on Micki’s heart’s work, a children’s picture book, May All People & Pigs Be Happy, that teaches loving-kindness.
